Image File Formats
- .gif
- Image file format which allows simple animation. Generally limited to 256 colours. Supported by MediaWiki.
- Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)
- .jpg
- .jpeg
- Image file format common on webpages. Supported by MediaWiki.
- Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG)
- .tiff
- Image file format using lossless compression and not common on webpages due to their large size. Not supported by MediaWiki.
- Tagged Image File (TIFF)
- .png
- Lossless image file format which supports 16 million colours. Supported by MediaWiki.
- Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
- .webp
- An image file format created by Google to replace jpeg. Supported by MediaWiki.
Other File Formats
- .css
- Styles used to format webpages. MediaWiki users can store custom css in the page MediaWiki:Common.css.
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- .less
- A style sheet which extends the features of CSS. Used by MediaWiki.
- Leaner Style Sheets (LESS)
- .json
- a text format for storing and transporting data. Used by MediaWiki.
- JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)
- A common file format for documents. Requires an Adobe reader or equivalent. Not supported by MediaWiki.
- Portable Document Format (PDF)
- .php
- Default extension for PHP files, commonly used for server-side scripts. Used extensively by MediaWiki. For example LocalSettings.php
- PHP is a recursive acronym meaning PHP:Hypertext Preprocessor
